Calvary Christian breaks ground on state-of-the-art athletic facility

Calvary Christian has started construction on the school’s first football stadium and athletic facility, school administrator David Kilgore announced in a news release. The complex will be known as “The Rock.”

The complex will be located on the school’s campus at the corner of McMullen Booth Road and Drew Street in Clearwater. The stadium will be the first one in the county to have a turf field and will include a Daktronics jumbotron scoreboard and an eight-lane  rubber track.

A 9,000-square foot field house is being built as well. It will have more than 3,000 square feet for a weight room and conditioning equipment. The project should be finished by August, Kilgore said.

The complex is being funded in large part by a gift from Dr. Pit Gills and his wife, Joy, who are both members of Calvary Baptist Church.

"We are truly grateful for this historic gift, and we believe this facility will be an essential tool for the further growth and expansion of our school and church ministry," said Dr. William Rice, senior pastor of Calvary Baptist Church.
