Calvary Christian, moving quickly to find a football coach, hired David Bonchi on Tuesday.

Bonchi was East Lake's offensive coordinator the past five seasons. He replaces Chris Rivera, who went 16-24 at Calvary and resigned last month after four seasons to pursue other opportunities.

"Coach Bonchi is a man of character and integrity," Calvary Christian athletic director Greg Thiel said in news release. "He will not only be an excellent coach for our program, he will be an excellent role model for our players."

Bonchi started coaching as an assistant at Pinellas Park in 1998. He left the Patriots to become an assistant at East Lake in 2002. During his tenure, the Eagles made the playoffs every year except 2008.

"Dave has all the tools to become a great head coach," East Lake coach Bob Hudson said. "He is a very knowledgeable coach, one that is eager to learn more information and keep an open mind to possible changes that will make a football program better."

Calvary Christian finished 4-6 in Class B, District 5 last season.
