Cambridge Christian baseball coach Rick Shears has positive news to report:

Lancer standouts Matt Fishman and Derek Self have received official scholarship offers to play in college.

Fisman received his offer from Quincy University, a Division II program in Illinois. Fishman, who helped head the Lancers to two straight Class A state championship games, is being recruited as a pitcher. He also plays first base and outfield at Cambridge.

Fishman was 8-5 last season with a 2.18 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 61 innings. He held opponents to a .233 batting average.

Cambridge has sent three players to Quincy: football players Austin Welti and Erik Shears and baseball player Trent Tagliarini.

Self’s offer came from NAIA Weber International University in nearby Babson Park. A pitcher/outfielder, Self was a second-team Class A all-state performer last season.

Neither player is quite ready to commit, Shears said.

“Both players have decided to wait a week or so before committing as other schools has shown interest in the pair,” the coach wrote in an email.
