Canterbury hired Jared Lewis to take over the baseball program, athletic director Dave Smith said Monday.

Lewis, 32, played high school baseball in Rhode Island and collegiately at the University of Tampa, where he was a pitcher on the school's 1998 Division II National title team. Lewis spent the past two seasons working as an assistant at Hillsborough Community College.

Lewis takes over for Shawn Brown, who resigned in August because of a schedule conflict with his job. Brown was successful in his two seasons with the Crusaders, guiding them to a district title in 2009 and a runnerup finish this past season.
