Canterbury volleyball coach John Milkovich, who led the Crusaders to their first appearance in the state semifinals, resigned this weekend, athletic director Dave Smith said.

Smith said in a release that Milkovich resigned to spend more time with his family.

Milkovich was 63-26 in three seasons and guided Canterbury to three straight district titles and a berth in this year's Class A state semifinals.

He was hired in 2008 to replace Smith, who stepped down because he was the athletic director and boys basketball coach at the time.

Milkovich coached at Gordon Graydon Secondary in Mississauga, Ontario, where he led several boys and girls teams to region titles.

He previously coached at Turner Fenton Secondary School and assisted at McMaster University in Brampton, Ontario, where he was a former player.
