After guiding Canterbury’s baseball program to its first appearance in the state final four, Dave Smith decided to step down as coach.
Smith started the season as an assistant before taking over as interim coach when Jared Lewis stepped down midway through the season for personal reasons.
Despite leading the Crusaders to an 18-12 record and a berth in the Class 2A state semifinals, Smith's plans were to coach through the season. He will remain athletic director and boys basketball coach.
Smith said the school will be accepting applications until the end of the month and would like to have a coach in place by July.
