Clearwater Central Catholic lineman Brett Rein will miss the rest of the regular season after breaking his leg in Friday’s win over Palm Harbor University.

Rein broke his tibia and fibula after being rolled up by a pile in the final two minutes of regulation. The Marauders were ahead 24-0 at the time and coach John Davis was already putting in backups. But Davis had to keep most of his linemen in because it is the one area where CCC has little depth.

“It’s one of those things that happens in football,” Davis said. “You hate for it to happen to your team. But I hate even more for the kid because he loves football so much.”

Rein, a senior, started every game at center last season and switched to guard this year. He will be replaced by Joe Scarcella, a senior who recently returned after also breaking his leg.

Davis said Rein will miss six to eight weeks. Rein could return if the Marauders make a playoff run.

“I Know Brett plans coming back and playing,” Davis said. “Hopefully that works out. I just hate for a kid to miss most of his senior year with an injury.”
