Clearwater Central Catholic offensive lineman Ian Koch had offers from Assumption and Hobart.
But the lure of playing Div. I football was too strong. So Koch decided Sunday to become a preferred walk-on at Florida International.
“I’d really wanted to play at the highest level,” Koch said. “There’s just more competition.”
Koch made his decision after visiting FIU this past week. He said he would be redshirted this season with a strong chance to compete for a scholarship in 2013.
This past season, Koch was a first-team Class 3A all-state and a Times all-county selection.
