At Merritt Island, Carrollwood Day sophomore Robert Davis scored three touchdowns -- including a school-record 99-yarder -- to lift the Patriots to a 38-3 romp of Merritt Island Christian.
According to Pats coach Lane McLaughlin, the contest counted in the independent program's regular season standings; all other county teams played preseason games this weekend.
A Freedom transfer, Davis took a lead up the middle inside his own 1, darted outside and outraced the MIC defenders. He also scored on a 95-yard kickoff return and 9-yard scoring run.
"His 95-yard return was really 150 yards because he went back to the left, back to the right, back to the left and back to the right," McLaughlin said. "He might be one of the fastest running backs in the county. He's got some jets."
Unveiling their new power running game behind a big, veteran offensive line, the Pats attempted only eight passes. Senior fullback Markeith Kilgo added two scoring runs, while sophomore Max Orr -- another Freedom transfer -- had a 6-yard TD run and added three sacks.
Quarterback Deuce Gruden finished 6-for-8, including a 65-yarder to Jefferson transfer Nate Lewis.
