Christopher Sands, a former assistant at Seminole, will take the reins as Central's head coach.

The Bears went 0-10 under coach Mike Einsphar this season after moving into a tough Class 5A-6 district. Athletic director Al Sorrentino said their goal was to find someone with experience turning a program around. Sands fit that ideal.

"He had a plan that would help pull our program out of its current state, and help pull it forward," Sorrentino said.

Sands previously worked as an assistant at Maclay School in Tallahassee. With Sands' help, that team sported improved records for a few years.

Sorrentino said Central had 52 applicants for the position and interviewed 10 to 12 of them.

"He came highly recommended from the people he coached with before, and he has a lot of energy," Sorrentino said.

The job comes with a teaching position that is still to be determined by school administration.
