Brandon Leston, a football and basketball player at Clearwater, has transferred to Clearwater Central Catholic, according to Marauders coach John Davis.

Leston will not be able to play in the preseason football game Aug. 27 against Palm Harbor University because he participated in an offseason workout with CCC's basketball team before he was officially enrolled in the school, Davis said.

Davis said Clearwater's principal and athletic director have already signed off on the transfer, and that CCC plans to appeal to the Florida High School Athletic Association to regain Leston's eligibility. Last year, Leston played receiver and was a key member of the Tornadoes' basketball team that reached the Class 5A region final.

Leston is the third football player to transfer to CCC this summer, joining Devon Garnett (Dunedin) and Devantae Mitchem (Boca Ciega). Mitchem also plays basketball.

One player who will not be joining Leston at CCC is Clearwater tight end/forward John Hogan, who decided to stay with the Tornadoes.
