Countryside senior William Griswold, arguably the area’s top kicker in 2009, has received a scholarship offer from Southern, his father told the Times via email.

Griswold also has offers from Quincy and Trinity International University. Additionally, he is being recruited by College of St. Scholastica, Hope College, Olivet Nazarene, Virginia Military Institute, Webber International and Wheaton College.

Griswold will visit Southern next weekend.

The Jaguars are coached by Stump Mitchell , who not only was a star NFL RB but recently was a Washington Redskins assistant.

As a senior, Griswold was 8 of 11 on field goals, 49 of 53 on PATs and averaged 51 yards per punt in the playoffs, helping him earn first-team all-county honors by the Times.

ProKicker.com rates Griswold as the No. 1 kicker in Florida.

In Griswold, Southern would also be getting an outstanding student. He carries a 4.1 GPA.

Southern went 6-6 last season, 3-5 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
