A week after her high school graduation, East Bay right-handed ace Kayla Cox still is collecting postseason accolades.
Cox and Indians coach Glenn Rodriguez have been named the state's Class 5A player and coach of the year, respectively, in a voting conducted by the Florida Dairy Farmers. As a result, Cox is a finalist for the state's Miss Softball honor and Rodriguez is in line for Florida's overall coach of the year award.
The pair helped guide East Bay (24-7-1) to the school's first state championship -- in any sport -- last month. Cox, bound for North Carolina State, finished 18-1 with a 0.19 ERA, striking out 242 in 148 innings.
The Miss Softball and coach-of-the-year winners should be announced later this month.
