Tampa Catholic’s off week couldn’t have come at a better time for the ailing Crusaders.
Already without starting linebacker Alec Maughan, the Tampa Catholic defense lost starters Zach Dyer and T.J. Harrell, both candidates to fill in for Maughan, Willie Conley, and Tyree Holder during last week’s 39-13 victory against Zphyrhills. Both Conley and Holder have high ankle sprains, which can be tricky to manage, head coach Bob Henriquez said. Dyer also has an ankle sprain, and Holder has a contusion on his knee.
While the field was wet due to thunderstorms before the game, Henriquez called the rash of injuries a “fluky” event. The Crusaders won’t be banging around much in practice this week, he said, and hopefully all but Maughan will be back for Tampa Catholic’s Sept. 23 game against Bloomingdale.
