Only a day after receiving an offer from the University of South Florida, Tampa Catholic receiver Zach Benjamin decided to commit to his hometown school.
“After talking with my family friends and coaches, I’ve officially committed to the University of South Florida!” Benjamin wrote on his Twitter account Wednesday night.
Crusaders coach Bob Henriquez confirmed the news via text.
USF was the first offer from an Automatic Qualifying conference school for Benjamin, who ranked No. 48 in the Tampa Bay Times’ HomeTeam 100. He held offers from schools such as Air Force, Massachusetts, Ohio and others.
Through seven games this season, Benjamin has 15 catches for 251 yards (16.8 yards per catch) and five touchdowns. He had 13 receptions for 260 yards and five touchdowns last year.
At 6-foot-5, 190 pounds, Benjamin generated a lot of recruiting buzz during the summer while playing with Team Tampa, which won the IMG Madden Football 7-on-7 national championship.
