Former Lakewood standout Dante Fowler Jr. is one of three defensive linemen in Florida’s 2012 recruiting class who will not be allowed to report to Gainesville along with other incoming freshmen because of academic issues, the Gainesville Sun reported.

Fowler and Jonathan Bullard, both five-star recruits, and four-star lineman Dante Phillips were the three players who will not be able to start classes Monday.

Fowler, and his father, Dante Fowler Sr., did not return a call seeking comment.

The Gainesville Sun reported that Fowler had to finish an online course earlier this week that still needed to be graded and sent on to the NCAA academic clearinghouse.

Fowler was one of the bay area’s highest-ranked recruits last season. He initially committed to Florida State but switched to Florida on national signing day.
