Lakewood coach Cory Moore said Monday afternoon that standout defensive end Dante Fowler has not been kicked off the football team, but remains indefinitely suspended.

"Dante's a good kid,'' said Moore, "he just made a bad decision."

While Moore left the door open a crack for Fowler's return, he did reiterate that Fowler was never suspended for just one game.

Fowler denied he was ever kicked off the team and said he was hoping to meet with Moore later Monday afternoon. He was not present at the team's mandatory study hall in the school library Monday.

Moore has not spoken to Fowler or his parents since suspending him Sept. 5 following a film session in which the senior FSU commitment and 5-star recruit questioned how he was being used by the defensive coordinator. Without Fowler, the Spartans won their first district game against Blake Friday night and posted their first shutout since 2009.

The team has a bye this week.
