TARPON SPRINGS --- In Pinellas County, only one football team has two players who rank among the county’s top-10 leaders in rushing.

Tarpon Springs.

That senior Adrian Golden, who has 723 yards to rank second, is near the top is no surprise. That teammate Darius Daniels checks in at No. 6 might be.

Thus far, the 5-foot-8, 145-pound junior has 466 yards on only 47 carries, which averages out to 9.9 yards an attempt.

“We’re doing a nice job keeping them fresh,” Spongers coach George Kotis said.

A week ago, the 1-2 punch was deadly to Largo.

Golden had 153 yards and one TD on 22 carries; Daniels had 134 yards and two scores on 16 attempts.

Tarpon Springs (4-1) won 28-20.

It was the second time this season both have topped 100 yards in the same game.

“They give you totally different looks,” Kotis said. “Darius is going to run in a straight line very fast. (Adrian) gives you the shimmy and shake.”
