Hernando junior Darren Hambrick has his first Division I scholarship offer.

Kent State offered the tenacious 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker/defensive end, Leopards coach John Palmer said in a text message.

Hambrick was second on the team with 81 tackles and 5.5 sacks last fall to help Hernando to a district title.

Hambrick, the son of the former Pasco standout and NFL player of the same name, is also receiving interest from Florida, Miami and others. He was an all-North Suncoast player in each of the last two seasons.

His high school teammate, senior Malcolm Hudson, is also getting some interest. The first team all-Suncoast defensive lineman is being recruited by Division III Averett University, St. Olaf and Jacksonville.
