Monday was a difficult day for the Plant City football team. Raiders players and coaches learned Monday morning that backup wide reciever Adam Riber was killed late Sunday night in a car accident on Interstate 4 in Plant City.

"He was a good kid who showed up every day to practice and work hard," Plant City coach Jason Strunk said. "Funny personality. Fun to be around. We lost a family member today."

The Times' Web site,, reported Monday morning that Riber, 17, was a passenger in a Nissan 300ZX that collided with another car while going westbound on I-4, swerved into the median and hit a guardrail.

According to the police report, Riber was thrown from the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car was taken to Tampa General Hospital. Neither Riber or the driver was wearing a seat belt, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Riber, listed as 5 feet 6, 134 pounds, made three catches for 10 yards last season for the Raiders.
