Deuce Gruden commits to Lafayette

Carrollwood Day two-way standout Deuce Gruden has committed to Lafayette following a visit last weekend to the Easton, Pa., school.

Gruden, son of former Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden, also had visited several smaller colleges as well as Dayton -- his dad's alma mater. Lafayette, a Division I-AA program, competes in the Patriot League.

Despite a wrecking-ball frame (5-foot-6, 180 pounds), Gruden played quarterback out of necessity the past two seasons, amassing more than 3,000 passing and nearly 800 rushing yards during that span.

He also played strong-side linebacker on defense, collecting more than 130 tackles. Patriots coach Lane McLaughlin said he'll likely be a slot receiver and play special teams at Lafayette.
