District tennis: Canterbury’s Holvoet wins boys No. 1 title

Canterbury’s Evan Holvoet defeated Shorecrest’s Peter Litsky 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles final of the Class A, District 9 tournament Tuesday in Sarasota. Holvoet automatically qualifies for the individual state championship April 15-18 in Sanford.

Bradenton St. Stephen’s won the boys team championship, but Shorecrest finished second to also advance to regionals next week.

Aside from Litsky advancing to a singles final, Luis Sarabia advanced to the No. 5 singles final for Shorecrest, winning 6-2, 6-4.

The No. 1 doubles team of Litsky and Jack Ledford advanced to the final but lost 6-1, 6-2. The Chargers’ No. 2 doubles team of Logan Elder and Rohit Reddy also lost in the final, 6-0, 6-7, 6-3.

On the girls side, Sarasota Out-of-Door Academy and Bradenton St. Stephen’s advanced to regionals.
