Dixie Hollins edged out Fivay 179-167 for the Class 2A-9 district title at Northeast on Friday.

The Rebels qualified 10 for regionals and crowned three district champions in Brandon Nevitt (170), Clay Redmond (220) and Andre Matthews (285). Nevitt came back to beat Osceola’s Zack Hehn 7-2 in the final after losing to Hehn at the PCAC meet a week ago. Matthews continued his dominance in Pinellas County and beyond, pinning all three opponents and extending his unblemished record to 30-0.

“Once Andre (Matthews) gets on top, it’s over,” Rebels coach Nick Spataro said. “A few weeks ago, Clay (Redmond) was struggling, but he came into his own the last couple of weeks and has a lot of confidence now.”

Osceola was fourth with 131.5 points and qualified eight, while crowning Ben Wagner champ at 152. Boca Ciega was fifth (101) and qualified six. Jacob Mohr won his second straight district title, at 145. Host Northeast finished sixth (79) and will bring four to regionals. The Vikings saw Daniel Gutierrez crowned district champ at 132.

The North Suncoast also fared well.

Fivay wrestlers Joey Zizzo (106), Cole Manion (120), Jean Alejandro (126), Andrew Scherer (160) and Davion Sutton (195) all claimed titles, with Scherer pinning all three of his opponents in the first two periods. The Falcons are sending nine wrestlers to regionals.

Mitchell came in third with 136 points. The Mustangs qualified nine wrestlers and crowned two — Dustin Watt at 113 who clipped Fivay’s Jose Morales 3-2 in the final, and Josh Brooks at 138.

River Ridge settled for seventh, but qualified five and saw 182-pounder Max Reynolds finish on top.
