River Ridge 4, Countryside 1
Dunedin 6, Lakewood 5

Pitchers of the day
River Ridge’s fire-balling starter, Jason Heinrich (four innings, one hit, five strikeouts), and reliever Rocco Iervasi (three frames, five hits) dodged bullets until an error with two outs in the seventh stopped the shutout. The pair stranded 12 Countryside runners. …From the second to the fifth innings, Countryside starter Christian Townsend yielded just a pair of walks.

Hitters of the day
Dunedin’s Justin Glover “hit a good change-up” for a two-run single in the first inning, handled “a curve left up in the zone” for a leadoff base hit in the third, and took “a fastball in a good spot” and hooked it into right field for a walkoff single in a win over Lakewood. …Tyler Hawks’ sun-aided double got River Ridge on the board first while Iervasi’s slicing RBI single to right with two outs in the bottom of the sixth gave himself some important insurance.

Defensive gem of the day
Countryside shortstop Johnathan Feibus snagged a tough one-hop throw from Townsend with runner Kyle Lanphear right on top of him for a key fourth-inning force-out, then patiently waited out and gunned down Devon Woodward at the plate on a first-and-third pickoff play.

Dugout chatter
“We need to be a little more focused. That last inning was kind of embarrassing. We gave them their run and we just have to be sharper.” — River Ridge coach Jack Homko

“We had a nice little burst at the beginning of the year against mediocre pitching, but right now we’re not hitting. We won two games last week and scored three runs. It’s on me to get the bats going.” — Countryside coach Kemo O’Sullivan

“I don’t know if it was the layoff, the rain, not a lot of practice, but I know we were flat. We were playing at half speed from the second inning on, and we let Lakewood hang around.” — Dunedin coach Ron Sexton
