Dunedin starting third baseman Austin Sweat will miss at least 4-6 weeks due to a fractured right elbow. Sweat, a junior, started for Palm Harbor University last season before transferring to Dunedin.
He aggravated the elbow injury in an intrasquad game and had surgery on Thursday.
"Best case scenario, in four to six weeks he can start swinging for us,'' Dunedin coach Tom Hilbert said. "It was one of those injuries that he's had before and it didn't totally heal. Doctors said it was just a matter of time before it got worse. But the surgery was a success and he'll be back in school on Monday.''
Dunedin's regular season begins on Tuesday against Dixie Hollins.
