Dunedin LB Ali Cheaib, one of the area’s top defensive players, has committed to Division I-AA Youngstown State, Falcons coach Mark Everett said today.
Despite being injured much of the 2009 season, Cheaib was an honorable mention All-County pick. He was team MVP as a junior for a squad that reached the playoffs.
The 6-foot-1, 215-pounder also had scholarship offers from Albany and Delaware State. Both of those programs also play at the Division I-AA level.
Youngstown State coach Eric Wolford was in Dunedin this week to visit with Cheaib. That’s when the scholarhip offer was made. Cheaib visited the school last weekend and committed Monday.
Youngstown State went 6-5 last season.
The Penguins play in the Missouri Valley Conference.
