Fresh off consecutive gut-wrenching district losses that eliminated them from playoff contention, the Durant Cougars have received a hearty consolation prize.

A Nov. 21 bowl game against Longwood Lyman at Winter Springs High. Kickoff is at 5 p.m.

Coach Mike Gottman, whose team was formally eliminated from the 5A playoff race with last week's 35-31 loss at Newsome, confirmed the bowl date. No name has been attached to the game, but no matter.

This is a reward for a 6-3 season, not to mention one more chance to play.

"That's what I told the seniors, you're gonna miss it when you don't have it," said Gottman, whose banged-up club faces King in Friday night's regular season finale. "I told them, 'I know it's a grind right now, but you're gonna miss this.'"
