Brandon High softball ace Kayla Goff, who recently led the Eagles to their first playoff berth in eight seasons, has committed to the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Coach Jen Steadham announced Tuesday.
A junior right-hander, Goff (13-11, 1.59 ERA) collected a county-best 264 strikeouts in 154 innings this past season. Her .328 batting average also was a team-best.
The UNF scholarship offer was Goff's first, Steadham said. She had made an official visit to Marshall and received overtures from other schools.
"This is just a place she really liked as far as the coach, the school, the softball program, and it's close enough," Steadham said.
When she signs some time next school year, Goff will become the second member of the 2010 Eagles team to join a Division I program, joining catcher Emilee Gwyn (Arkansas-Pine Bluff).
