With offers from Central Florida and South Florida in the past two days, East Lake quarterback Pete DiNovo has options to remain in the state and could make his decision within the next two weeks.

“I wanted to stay in the state so I could play close to home,” DiNovo said. “I couldn’t ask for a better situation than what I have right now.”

On Sunday, DiNovo got an offer from the Knights, his first from an in-state school. The Bulls followed with an offer Monday morning.

“I’ve been in contact with both schools and I know a lot of people on each staff since I’ve been at East Lake,” DiNovo said. “It’s going to be a tough decision, but it’s nice to be able pick from these two schools.”

Last season, DiNovo threw for 2,426 yards and 19 touchdowns and led the Eagles to their first region final appearance. But his offer did not come until late spring when Houston came through. DiNovo was still holding out hope that one of the in-state schools would offer.

Now that two have, his decision became easy.

DiNovo wants to make his decision early because he plans to graduate in December and enroll in college for the spring semester.

“I have some family coming for the holiday this week,” DiNovo said. “They’re important to me and I want to talk it over with all of them. I could even decide where I want to go by the end of this week.

“I just know it’s a big relief to be able to decide between two state schools.”
