East Lake infielder Keegan Maronpot has committed to Wake Forest, according to coach Dan Genna. Maronpot, who played third base and mostly shortstop last season, plans to officially sign with the Demon Deacons during the November signing period.

He had a breakout season for the Eagles as a junior.  He hit .418 with 28 RBIs and 25 runs scored to lead East Lake. He was a first team Times all-county selection and was on the first-team All PCAC team.

"He's the backbone of our team,'' Genna said. "He's a tremendous teammate who makes the rest of the team better.''

East Lake won its third straight district championship in the spring and advanced to the regional semifinals. Wake Forest was 28-27 last season, 9-20 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
