The lower right leg Plant quarterback Phillip Ely re-aggravated Friday night will keep him out of practice at least until Thursday, Coach Robert Weiner said today.
The Panthers face Hillsborough on Friday.
A University of Alabama commitment, Ely initially hurt the leg -- described by Weiner as a muscle strain but located in the high ankle sprain area -- in the first half of Plant's 48-10 preseason loss at Bradenton Manatee. He missed two days of practice as a result.
He hurt it again in the first quarter of Friday's 10-0 win at Tampa Bay Tech after being sacked and fumbling on a Titans blitz. Ely limped off the field, sat out one series and re-entered, attempting only five more passes the rest of the night. He finished 7-for-13 for 108 yards.
"I think he made it a little bit worse," Weiner said immediately after the game. "Of course he's a gamer and all he wanted to do was get back in the game no matter what. He got back in the game and was very, very, very courageous in the way he played."
