Sickles senior Abdin Fator won his third race of the young season Friday, capturing the Large School Boys event to highlight Day One of the 13th annual flrunners.com Invitational in Titusville.
Plant, which put six runners in the top 14, won the boys team title with 35 points. Sickles finished third (107), one point behind Stuart Martin County.
Fator, winner of three races in as many weekends, navigated the Chain of Lakes Park course in 16 minutes, 19.70 seconds -- roughly three seconds ahead of Oviedo's Justin Schanze. Plant seniors Travis Lucas (16:30.80) and Bryce Weaver (16:47.10) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
Elsewhere, Shorecrest swept the team titles in the Boys and Girls Small School races. The Chargers boys (140) got a third-place effort from Ross Porter (16:59.90) to win by a point over Key West. Admiral Farragut's Patrick McNamara placed seventh (17:16.70).
Shorecrest eighth-grader Olivia Rovin won the girls race in a season-best time (19:47.90), while junior teammate Savannah Broome (21:13.40) was fifth.
Northeast senior Amanda Spring won the Large School Girls race in 19:18, only about a second off her personal-best time.
Action resumes today with a dozen more races, highlighted by the Boys and Girls Race of Champions -- the weekend's elite races -- and the Boys and Girls Invitational. The boys race will feature Wiregrass Ranch and Newsome standout Lars Benner; the invitationals will feature roughly 10 bay area schools.
