Last season as a junior, Gulf guard Nicole Adams averaged 18 points a game to earn the St. Petersburg Times’ all-North Suncoast Player of the Year award.
So, how’s this for an encore?
Through three games last week, Adams led the Buccaneers to victories over Mitchell, Largo and Nature Coast by pumping in over 30 points a game.
For her effort, Adams has been selected as our girls’ player of the week.
Against Mitchell, Adams scored 33 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had four assists.
In a 60-point blowout of Largo, Adams contributed 23 points and nearly had a double-double after snagging nine rebounds.
Adams, though, saved her best effort for Nature Coast. The senior sharpshooter hit seven 3-pointers and had a season-high 36 points to lead the Buccaneers to a 75-47 victory over the Sharks.
Adams, who has over 1,500 points in her high school career, is looking to hit the 2,000 point plateau sometime this season. If she continues her torrid scoring pace, it shouldn’t take her too long to accomplish that remarkable feat.
