Michael Hahn, who placed in the state wrestling tournament each of the last two seasons for Fivay, signed with NAIA Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis on Sunday.
Hahn went 43-2 as a senior, with his only losses coming in the finals at regionals and state to the same opponent, Lake Highland Prep’s Carter Shipley. It was a ground-breaking season for Hahn and the Falcons program. The previous season he went 38-5 and became the first Fivay wrestler to not only place at state but qualify.
Hahn plans to leave for the campus Aug. 17 to begin the fall semester with the Spartans.
Missouri Baptist went 4-2 last season before placing 10th at the NAIA nationals in Des Moines, Iowa.
Hahn will have some tough competition just to crack the lineup his first season. With the roster loaded with five returning grapplers between the 197- and 285-pound weight classes, there will not be much room right away. California junior Justin Whitten (197), California senior Lucas Keene (197), Missouri junior Christopher Jennings (197/285), California junior Luis Contreras (285), and New York junior Julius Anglickas (285) provide a great deal of experience at the heavyweight classes.
