It appears FIU is close to landing another top Hillsborough County recruit.
Alonso senior free safety Jordan Davis has narrowed his college choices down to Florida International and South Alabama, Ravens coach Brian Emanuel said Wednesday, and Davis could commit to one of the two schools soon.
If he does end up picking the Panthers, he would join Jefferson receiver Adrian Jenkins and TBT running back Lamarq Caldwell as FIU verbal commitments.
Emanuel said FIU is coming to watch Davis play this week as the Ravens face Tampa Catholic in a non-district matchup.
South Alabama, which began a football program in 2009, will play at the Division I level for the first time next season, but not be eligible for the postseason until 2013. Former Alonso quarterback C.J. Bennett and former Plant RB T.J. Glover both currently play for the Jaguars.
Davis is averaging 6.1 tackles a game with one interception, one sack and four passes defended for the 5-2 Ravens.
