NEW PORT RICHEY — Anclote got all the points it needed in the first quarter en route to a 43-9 victory over Gulf on Friday night.

“We want to build this team every year, raise these boys with some discipline and teach them how to win,” said coach Matt Wicks, whose team has won four in a row after starting 0-3.

Anclote (4-3, 3-0) scored the game’s first 36 points in the first quarter while suffocating Gulf’s offense for the majority of the game. The Sharks held Gulf to 64 total yards.

Anclote scored on all of its first-quarter drives. Brandon Vinkler opened things up when he threw 9 yards to Jonte Scott. Trent Crawford scored on runs of 50 and 57 yards. Willie Barrett ran in from 5 yards and Scott rushed from 4 after Austin Rumer intercepted a pass.

Gulf (0-7, 0-3) got its only touchdown when Avery Welch connected with a wide-open RaQuan Hayes on an 81-yard pass before the end of the first quarter.

Vinkler scored the final touchdown in the second quarter when he connected with Tymere Carter from 8 yards out.

“We feel like we’ve had that steady climb, that steady journey. That’s what it’s been all along,” said Wicks, whose team is another step closer to a district title.
