CLEARWATER — Daniel Giordano led a solid second-half rushing effort as Calvary Christian knocked off St. Stephens Episcopal 20-7 Friday in the season opener for both teams.

Trailing 7-0 at the half, the Warriors went on a 55-yard scoring drive on seven plays to open the 3rd quarter. Senior Kyle Don finished the drive with a 13-yard run. He finished the night with 45 yards on eight carries.

Giordano scored twice more in the fourth quarter, from 3 and 9 yards respectively, to end the scoring. He gained 109 yards on 14 carries. In all, Calvary gained 201 of its 232 rushing yards in the second half.

“We got pysched and got after it in the second half,” said Warriors coach Todd Yoder. “They cramped up some and we were able to eventually wear them down.”

Calvary’s bend but don’t break defense in the first half kept the game close. Twice in the first half, the Falcons broke the Warriors’ 35 yard line, but an interception and downs ended each drive.
