TARPON SPRINGS — East Lake scored on all but its final drive Thursday while tossing in one defensive score and a spectacular special teams touchdown in a 48-0 rout of Dunedin.
There were many to pick from but Artavis Scott provided the highlight of the night, a 70-yard punt return where he eluded pretty much the entire Falcons team. His best moves were in the final 20 yards, where Scott criss-crossed the left side of the field to avoid three more flailing tacklers.
“That was probably the best of my high school career,” said Scott, who nearly went out of bounds fielding the ball on a short hop. It made the score 41-0 at halftime.
The all-area receiver had no catches but ran for 55 yards with his 23-yard TD starting the Eagles’ onslaught. Jake Hudson was 3-for-4 for 72 yards, all of that going to George Campbell including a 38-yard strike to make it 14-0.
Devin Abraham halted Dunedin’s promising first drive with an interception and later took another back 38 yards for a 27-0 lead. East Lake (3-0) picked Dunedin’s Givanni Gonzalez three times.
“We watched a lot of film this week and could tell what they were going to do by how they lined up,” Abraham said. “Those plays were just about me reading the quarterback’s eyes and doing what a safety’s supposed to do.”
Dunedin (1-2) never got past the 40-yard line.
