CLEARWATER — East Lake took a 54-3 lead into the locker room at halftime Friday and went on to defeat Clearwater 61-16.

The Eagles were led by Weston Fordham and Artavis Scott. Fordham rushed for 55 yards and two touchdowns on five attempts. Scott caught four passes for 73 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Jake Hudson threw for 132 yards and two touchdowns for the Eagles (4-0).

Defense and special teams also contributed for the Eagles. Leading 7-0 after Fordham’s first touchdown run, Carson Lydon blocked a punt for a safety to give the Eagles a 9-0 lead. On the ensuing free kick, Justin Strnad returned it 45 yards to bring the lead to 16-0. Later in the second quarter Lydon struck again, with a 20-yard interception return. The Eagles’ starters sat out the second half.

However, the Eagles surrendered their first points of the season on a 28-yard field goal at the beginning of the second quarter by Clearwater’s Ty Smith. Then at the beginning of the fourth quarter East Lake’s backups surrendered their first touchdown on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Garrisin Bryant to Leundray Rhodes.

Bryant had a strong performance for the Tornadoes (0-4), throwing for 156 yards and two touchdowns.
