BROOKSVILLE  — Hernando Christian, winless with eight points scored all season coming into Friday’s game, nearly tripled its points total in a 38-22 loss to First Academy of Leesburg.

First Academy opened the game with a defensive score when Brandon Foster picked off a Hernando Christian pass and took it 20 yards. Foster later showed off his offensive skill with a touchdown pass to Caleb Punt, making the score 12-0 in the second quarter.

Hernando Christian got on the board when Nathan Kautsky plowed through defenders for a 50-yard touchdown run to start the third quarter.

First Academy senior Nick Holmes shined with four explosive touchdown runs of 49, 22, 1 and 37 yards. Holmes also carried the ball 11 times for 139 yards.

Hernando Christian did not go down without a fight.  Junior quarterback Donnie Wainscott guided the Lions on a seven-play, 56-yard drive capped by a 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

And Kautsky added a 34-yard touchdown.
