TAMPA — Gaither quarterback Alex McGough accounted for three touchdowns as the Cowboys used a stellar second half to pull away from Wiregrass Ranch 34-14 at home Friday night.

The Cowboys (3-3) came out of the gate strong, scoring on the opening series of the game, a methodical 18-play drive that chewed up more than seven minutes.

Wiregrass (2-3) tied the score in the second quarter when junior quarterback Shane Bucenell took a keeper into the end zone.

Down 10-7 at the half, it appeared Wiregrass was ready to seize control of the game early in the third.

After Gaither fumbled deep in its own territory, Bucenell took advantage, connecting with wideout James Jackson from 15 yards out to give the Bulls the lead.

Those were the last points of the game for Wiregrass.

From that point, the Gaither offense caught fire.

The Cowboys went on to score on their next three possessions. Wideout Jeff Suarez was on the receiving end of consecutive touchdown passes during that stretch.

Gaither was strong in all three phases of the game. The offense scored three times, special teams added two field goals, and the defense added a late pick-six by athlete Javon Hammond.
