CLEARWATER — Gibbs defeated Clearwater 48-13 on Friday to spoil Clearwater’s homecoming.

Gibbs (1-4) had a strong offensive performance, gaining 373 total yards, including 208 rushing.

Gibbs went three and out on its opening possession and was forced to punt. Clearwater (0-5) mishandled the punt and Gibbs recovered at Clearwater’s 15. The Gladiators capitalized on a 4-yard touchdown run by Brevet Killett.

Maurice Hall had two rushing touchdowns on just four carries, as well as an 80-yard kickoff return to open up the second half.

Killett also had a strong game, passing for 165 yards and two touchdowns. He added 22 yards and another touchdown on the ground. Running back Tyron Lansom rushed for 107 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.

Clearwater cut the lead to 12-6 in the second quarter when Tupac Blanch picked up a Gibbs fumble and returned it 3 yards for a touchdown. After that Gibbs ran off 36 unanswered points.

“It was nice for our team working hard and finally getting a win,” Gibbs coach Rick Kravitz said. “(Clearwater coach) Donnie (Abraham) is a class act and both of our programs are going to improve.”
