TAMPA — Junior quarterback Dwayne Lawson threw three touchdown passes and ran for another as the Terriers breezed past visiting Robinson 40-10 on Friday night.

“Lawson is a special talent and a national recruit for us,” coach Earl Garcia said. “I’m excited to see him continue to get better.”
Hillsborough scored 26 unanswered points in the second half thanks to sound defense.

Leading 27-10 early in the fourth quarter, sophomore cornerback Mike Hampton picked off a Robinson pass near the 50-yard line and returned it for a score. It was Hampton’s second touchdown of the game. He also caught a touchdown pass.

“Mike came up big for us tonight,” Garcia said after the win. “That was our first defensive touchdown of the season. We talked a lot about that this week and guys stepped up.”

Hillsborough, indeed, needed players to step up. Five players did not play after they were removed from the team due to violation of team rules; one of those players was a key senior.

“I don’t want to go into any details, just the players were removed from the team to violations,” Garcia said. “The four underclassmen will have an opportunity to come see me and earn the chance to be reinstated for next season.”
