It took a while, but Indian Rocks Christian was able to break away from host Keswick Christian in a 28-14 victory, thanks to defense and special teams.
Tied at 7 at the half, the Golden Eagles scored on an interception return for a touchdown and a blocked punt recovered in the end zone for a score.
Kendall Bradenburg also scored on a short run for Indian Rocks in the second.
For the Golden Eagles (1-1), it was their first win in Class 2A, District 5.
“This one wasn’t easy,” IRC coach Mark Buchanan said. “Keswick was tough. They shut down our run game. We really needed our defense and special teams to come through and they did.”
