TAMPA — Jefferson all but settled the 6A-8 playoff picture with a win over host King. The Lions had a chance to leapfrog the Dragons in the district standings but the Dragons never gave King much hope.

Deiondre Porter, who was 14-for-29 for 291 yards, four TDs and two interceptions, took the Dragons 70 yards in 14 plays and capped it with a 1-yard plunge for a touchdown. Their next drive went 70 yards in one play, as a wide open Derrick Ingram hauled in a pass over the middle. Porter’s 5-yard TD run made it 19-0 at the half.

Second-half fireworks went off as Ingram, who had four catches for 183 yards and two TDs, hauled in a 68-yarder on Jefferson’s first play. On the Lions first play of the half, quarterback Darian Wright broke free for a 75-yard touchdown run. Donnell Taylor stepped in for an injured Wright and scored on a 10-yard run to get King within 33-13.

A bright spot for the Lions was a 44-yard field goal hit by Almohsi Bader. Dragons senior captain Joshua Marrero stuffed the point of attack at defensive tackle and threw the lead block that sprung Mondreas Lofton on a 21-yard screen pass for a touchdown.

“I love getting engaged and putting people out of position and I love when my running back scores,” Marrero said.
