TAMPA — King rode its big-play offense past Blake 37-7 Friday in a Class 4A, District 8 matchup.

The Lions (4-1, 2-1) scored touchdowns on four of their first five possessions in the first half.

Leading 2-0 early, King got a 54-yard punt return from Jamerrion Harrison that set up an 8-yard TD run by Otis Williams. Williams gained 95 yards on just four first-half carries, three of which went from more than 20 yards.

On the Lions’ next possession, quarterback Darian Wright hit Levontee Brice for a 60-yard TD to increase the lead to 17-0.

Donnell Taylor and Greg Thompson also scored in the half as King built a 30-0 lead at the break.

“I wasn’t sure we could score on them that easy,” Lions coach Alvin Davis said. “The kids came out really focused and played with great intensity in that first half.”

Blake (2-4, 2-2) entered the game riding a two-game win streak but struggled from the start. Leading rusher Corey Bennett was injured in the first quarter and never returned. The Yellow Jacket highlight was Juwan Burgess’ 56-yard punt return for a score early in the third quarter.
