GULFPORT — Lakewood rebounded from last week’s tough loss to Largo to completely dismantle Boca Ciega 38-0 Friday night.

The Spartans (4-2) played without starting quarterback Ryan Davis, who was held out after sustaining a concussion a week ago. Jocqui Ellison stepped in and made a smooth transition under center. Early in the first quarter, Tyree Boykins returned a punt 75 yards to put the Spartans up 6-0. Later in the quarter Malik Brown scooped up a fumble and rumbled 19 yards for a touchdown; after the two-point conversion Lakewood led 14-0.

Tyriek Hopkins hit a gaping whole for a 20-yard touchdown run of his own as the Spartans pushed the lead to 22-0 after the conversion.

Romello Presely, who had a game-high 93 yards on 10 carries, raced to the end zone untouched for 17-yard touchdown set up by a Brujoun Bonner’s interception to make it 30-0 at halftime.

The Spatans later added a 15-yard touchdown run from Donterio Fowler as the Spartans built a insurmountable 38-0 lead.

“We put in great work and we are getting better, but we still have a long way to go,” Spartans coach Cory Moore said.
