ST. PETERSBURG — Homecoming night was a breeze for Lakewood, which shut out Dunedin 53-0 Friday night.

“I was real happy with the fire and intensity of the team,” coach Cory Moore said. “We had a 4:30 a.m. practice this week and it really help the team bond.”

Quarterback Ryan Davis, who finished 7 of 8 for 162 yards and two touchdowns, connected with Darquez Watson for a 73-yard touchdown pass to kick off scoring. Later in the quarter Donterio Fowler (102 yards, two TDs on four carries) scored on a 43-yard run to put the Spartans up 14-0.

In the second quarter the Spartans went on a scoring explosion with Romello Presely and Courtney Burge both scoring on 8-yard runs. Burge’s touchdown was set up by a Tyrae Boykins 60-yard punt return.

Fowler struck again on a 47-yard run as he easily outran his defenders. Davis later connected with Jocqui Ellison for 41-yard touchdown as the Spartans marched into the locker room at halftime with a 40-0 lead.

The Spartans added two more scores, one by Burge on a 6-yard touchdown and a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown.

The defense was led by Malik Brown, who recorded five sacks in the shutout.
