Land O'Lakes quarterback Stevie Weatherford is having quite a season.
Through seven games, he has thrown for 1,520 yards and completed 63 percent of his passes (91-of-145). He's also got a shot to finish with the state lead in touchdowns.
Weatherford, who has thrown just four interceptions, currently is tied with Jefferson quarterback Quentin Williams, each with a state-leading 22 touchdown passes.
Weatherford's numbers would likely be higher had he not been suspended for breaking a team rule and benched for the Anclote game. The Sharks are allowing an average of 45.6 points per game in their eight loss, including a 42-0 loss to LandO'Lakes.
And consider this, if Land O'Lakes can defeat Mitchell this week to reach the playoffs Weatherford could battle Williams head-to-head in the opening round of the playoffs. Jefferson first must beat Blake to secure the Class 3A, District 8 title.
Also on Weatherford's agenda, a head-to-head battle with Hudson quarterback Zack Wynn on Nov. 13. Wynn leads the North Suncoast with 1,896 yards. He also had thrown for 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in eight games completing 56 percent of his passes (157-for-279).
It's an opportunity for both to show their stuff on the same stage.
