TAMPA — Jarvis Stewart rushed for two touchdowns and the Largo defense capitalized on Jesuit turnovers in a 34-13 victory Friday night.
Largo improved to 3-1, while Jesuit fell to 1-3.
The first half was all Largo as the Packers scored on two defensive turnovers and nearly on a third. A blind-side hit on quarterback Vincent Testaverde resulted in Jonathan Crawford returning a fumble 15 yards for a touchdown to open the scoring. Cordell Hudson later scooped up a fumble and went 28 yards for a touchdown. He had a 100-yard interception for a touchdown nullified because of an illegal block penalty on the return.
“You can’t spot a team like that 13 points and expect to be successful,” Jesuit coach Matt Thompson said of the two first-half defensive touchdowns.
Stewart rushed for 155 yards and two touchdowns, but he also had a 48.25 punting average.
“He’s a man among boys running the ball,” Largo coach Rick Rodriguez said of Stewart, “but the biggest play of the game might have been his 61-yard punt when they had the momentum. We then forced a three and out and got a score.”
